Experimental Personal Doc
I started this project by telling my family to pick some pictures for me to put in a video, we sat around going over these photos for a few hours. After we picked a few I had them help me set up a nice-looking atmosphere and had my brother set out the pictures on video, while dad played some music in the background. I would’ve liked to include that as well, but I don’t want copyright strikes. I made this video for my family to keep. A reimagining of old family videos and a way to further future proof these important images. I had a voiceover explaining what I wanted to achieve with this. But I felt it detracted from the essence of it. While making this I thought about other people’s families; friends and their families become family as well right? And when you start to get to know a partner more you learn about their family as well. This has always been interesting to me. How rare and valuable this phenomenon is. So, as a secondary function, I feel this type of video offers others a chance to look inside the community that is the people I call family. A raw and voyeuristic view of something people don’t usually see. I hope this invokes feelings of nostalgia and connection, while prompting an introspective view of your own family.
